I don’t know if you’re like me, but I am the type of person that takes great pride in the work I do. When I have a task or assignment, I don’t like to just ‘do’ it, I want to make sure I put that extra ‘oomph’ into it! I just don’t like to do things in a satisfactory way. If I am going to do something, I am going to go the extra mile and do things in an extraordinary way.
With that mindset of wanting to do things extraordinarily in my personal and professional life, I have found that at times (in the past), that I often would make great preparations in what I do before I put action to it. Like I just said, I ‘used’ to be like this. I used to plan, research, plan again, ponder it, make sure to perfect it before I took action on it. A good example is when I first started my business. I wanted everything to be perfect before putting out something on my website or start a program. What did that do for me? Well, I certainly didn’t move as fast as I probably should have. If I put all that energy into putting more things into action, I could have made adjustments along the way. One day, one of my business mentors gave me a heart to heart and said to me, “Cindy, stop thinking about it, you’re a ‘SmartChic’, just do it!!” Haha! Well, for some reason that really resonated with me that sometimes we just have to get out of our head and move way ahead and just go for it! Take action on it!
So are there things that you have been thinking about in your head that you really need to take action on; move way forward on? Are you wanting to start a business and just haven’t got it started or moved it way forward? Is there something in a relationship that you need to handle? Do you have financial goals that you need to move way forward on? Are you looking to take care of yourself in a much better way but you haven’t gone from the thinking mode to action mode? Well, the time is right now! Now is the time to not only focus on something you need to do, but take action on what you want and need to do.
10 ‘Smart’ Reasons Why It’s Time To Get Those Ideas Out of Your Head
- You prove to yourself that you can do it!
- You are not just talking the talk, you are walking the talk.
- You get out of being a perfectionist.

- Procrastinating is wasting precious time.
- When you actually take action on something, others can support you in what you’re ‘doing’.

What is that ‘thing’ that you need to stop thinking about and start taking action on? Also, I’d love to hear of your ‘wins’; what you have moved WAY forward on in your life recently! Cynthia,
You have written a great blog on getting out of the “analysis paralysis” mode that many of us fall into. Whether we are living this way inside our head or outside in the world at our jobs or in our relationships, your 10 “smart” reasons will help individuals jumpstart or even better “jumpSMART” their lives. In doing so, a certain freedom sets in and happiness, increased productivity and a sense of healthy self-worth begins to emerge. And as this all comes together, one’s confidence is increased and they begin to in your words begin to have a “LetsDoThis” attitude. In other words, as we “jumpSMART” we take control of our lives and begin to do some great and positive things for ourselves and our families, friends and colleagues!
Thanks so much!
Dale
Yes I need to print that out! Sometimes i can be such a procrastinator. Of course on the other hand I feel like I do my best work when under pressure. I think it is a matter of really loving the task. I always say..my students aren’t gonna get it and retain it unless it has meaning and connection to them. Getting those ideas out there and than MAKING that emotional connection is important when you prioritize your goals.
Thanks Cyn!!
Hi Cynthia,
Another great post about being proactive in our lives and taking that leap of faith, trusting your gut and living your truth. Number 6 and 10 resonate deeply with me. No excuses, only action and results. Thank you for reminding us again on how to stay focused and believing in who we are. YOU my friend, are an incredible mentor and classy woman all around. Lots of love from me to you!
Fantastic blog post Cindy! Couldn’t come at a better time for me! Thinking about an idea and actually doing something about it are two different things and your insightful words will inspire us to make the leap and take action! Thanks for all the value and encouragement you provide!
Thank you for the feedback Rick! Make that leap and do it my friend! You’ve got this!
This post is perfect timing for me Cynthia. In 2014 one of my goals is to “Take Action”. I have always been like you used to be……I take a long time making sure everything is just perfect before moving forward. At the end of 2013 I started to transform my business. We are 15 days into the new year and the transformation continues. There are several things that I need to do NOW. I have not taken action on these things and I truly need to just do it. The past few weeks I have been listening to several business podcasts and I keep hearing about the importance of taking action. Now I read your post and there it is again…..take action! So thank you for this post. The timing of it is ideal (you knew what I needed to read!). It’s time to Take Action in my life. Thank you #RockStar!
Adam
Thank you so much Adam for taking the time to post your comments here. 2014 is YOUR year and I can’t wait to hear all the things that YOU are taking major action on!
Great blog post!
One fear that I have is once something is out of my head, whatever it is needs action. If I keep stuff running around in my head it’s “safe”. As long as ideas are running around the hamster trail of my grey matter, I don’t have to act on them.
As well, some things absolutely NEED to come out, and I don’t know HOW. Write it down? How do I keep it organized? Truthfully, a sticky note on my computer monitor is a great place for ideas, but it’s also a great place to forget about them. I need a way to organize the clutter!
Ideas always sound great inside my head, and I never have any doubts about the idea or my abilities to get that idea up and and running. Once it’s out of my head, that’s when my self doubt comes in, and the ball starts rolling: I suck, I am lame, I am stupid…all those fun things. I can have a lovely internal dialogue with myself.
*slurps coffee*
Again, great post! You hit on some things that have been spinning around my head for quite some time, now its time to do something about it. It’s time for the world to see how awesome I am, instead of telling myself.
Thank you so much for your comments Cheryl. I really look forward to teaching you all my smart strategies to get you from idea mode into action mode! Great things to come for you my friend!
Hey Cynthia! Appreciate the post. I think with my recent move for a job for the first time out of my home state last year kinda helped me with #1 on your list. There was intrepidation on some levels for me. I knew I could do it, but it was more about the unknown that gave me some concern. A person just needs to make a move by faith sometimes and know that things will work out. #9 rings true for me also. Alot of my close family and friends were very supportive of me. Their support helped me to relax and gain confidence in leaving Iowa. I identify with #7 100%. Nervous some to start, but now know I really had nothing to be afraid of in the first place. I feel when the time comes for me to pack up and move on to my next adventure, I can handle it.
Looking forward to our chat here in a couple of weeks!
Geoff
Thank you for sharing your comments Geoff! I know your move was a big one for you, but it turned out to be really awesome for you! So many great things to come for you. And yes, I am SO looking forward to our chat which is coming up VERY soon!
Great tips for staying focused & taking action, Cynthia! Grazie!
I believe: “Don’t analyze ’til you paralyze”! I find that action cuts through the “clutter” in our brain. Even if I don’t have everything figured out (and I don’t think one ever does!), my experience tells me that taking a small step clears the path for bigger action.
Publishing my first book (in French) last year was a big step for me. Another new journey: I’m taking a 6-part coaching course to qualify for an International Coaching Federation certification. I’d been thinking about these for a while, and since I’ve taken action, it’s absolutely amazing how many wonderful people and opportunities have come my way! The most amazing: it’s making it easier and more compelling to take action in other areas of my life!
Action triggers action!
WooHoo! Awesome Giovanni! I am so proud and happy for you! You are truly going for it in life! I can’t wait to hear about all the other things that you will be doing. Thanks for taking the time to share your inspiring WINS with us.
Thank you Cynthia for your positivity and helping ones keep moving forwards toward their goals and dreams. I tend to procrastinate on many things in my life. Mostly due to a continuation of obstacles. It seems I get over one hurdle and then there are 10 more. I also have to get the “money” thing out of my mind. It’s hard when you have a dream, a goal, and things you needed to do “yesterday”, but with not having the financial means to move forward it can be another challenge. However, working with you and reading your blogs, I will get there. Where there is a will there will always be a way.
