So I’ve hit a milestone in my life.  I am now “40” years old.  I didn’t think when my birthday hit that it would actually be a thought in my mind. But like most people, it sure did.  I woke up bright and early and the first thing I said to myself (and maybe even out loud), ‘I can’t believe I’m 40’.  What I said, could be construed in so many ways.  To some, it could appear that the actual ‘number’ might have bothered me. To others, it might seem as if I started thinking about what I ‘had not’ accomplished so far in my life.  To others, people may feel I may have thought about how my ‘younger years were over’.

So what DID I think about on Saturday, December 8th?  Well…. first I was ‘grateful’. I thought about everything I did have in my life; all the blessings that are here with me today; a great family, fantastic friends and a career I thoroughly enjoy.  Secondly, I thought about everything that I have learned from there to here; meaning all the wisdom I have gained from all the experiences I’ve had (good and bad). Third and lastly, what I thought about, was all that I was going to do moving forward in my personal life and in business. How I could be a better person each day, and for business, what things I was going to do to really go for it.

Part of this whole wisdom thing as you get older (at least for me), is not to have any regrets. It won’t do you any good. One must look and move forward. I choose to think of what I do have and can do for the future.  So here are 3 tips to get through milestones in your life.

3 Tips to Get Through Big Milestones in a Positive Way

  1. Have an Attitude of Gratitude– Think of everything you DO have in your life.
  2. Appreciate the Wisdom – Think about and appreciate all that you HAVE learned as a result of your experiences.
  3. Develop an Action Plan for the Future – Get busy making and moving WAY forward on an action plan for all the exciting things you are going to do in the next chapter of your life.

We’re all going through milestones.  It could be reaching a certain age; your kids going off to college; a loss of an important person in your life; starting a new relationship or a new job. Whatever that milestone is, you have a choice of looking at things in a negative or positive way. Choose to live your life in the best possible way.

What milestones are you going through in your life?  How are you dealing with them?  I’d love to hear from you!
