You are not your past. You are what you focus on in the present and how you move ahead. ~Cynthia Bazin
I think we all know this, but do we truly LIVE that? Are we doing what makes us happy in life or are there things in life, negative things, that are blocking us from truly living a life full of happiness? None of us are perfect and I think we all could share a story where there was some negativity in our past which could truly hold us back if we choose to do nothing about it. What I just said is the key… we choose to take control of our life or let life circumstances take control of us.
I am writing this post because of someone I know that is super smart, beautiful on the inside and outside and deserves GREAT success and happiness. I am proud to say, she admitted to me yesterday that she was sick and tired of being sick and tired. She was ready and committed to take the steps to move forward from some negatively in her past that she let affect her by not truly going for what would make her happy in life. She said out loud ‘No more‘. She committed to really start going for it in life.
Listen. Life is flying on by. For me personally, I refuse to let anyone bring negativity into my life which could affect my persistence and determination to live what I consider to be a happy and authentically successful life. I choose to live a life with absolutely no regrets. I say ‘no’ to toxic, negative people and I say ‘yes’ to living life to the fullest. END OF STORY.
So I ask you. Have you had enough of something from your past trying to keep you from moving WAY forward in your life? Are you ready to take concrete steps to live your happiest life? Here are 5 smart tips to get you started.
5 Smart Tips to Move Past Negativity / Break Through to True Happiness
- Get Real! The first step is to get real with yourself and find out what is blocking you. No more reasoning and justifying things. The first step in moving forward is getting to the core of what has been holding you back.
- Be Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired – I truly believe in order for people to really make the commitment to make REAL change in their lives for the better, they have to be sick and tired of the status quo. Enough is enough and by being really tired of how things are, they then will really commit to moving positively forward.
- Be Committed to Radically Change Your Life – In order for big happiness and success to happen in your life, you must be willing to commit! Commit to changing negative patterns in your life to more positive, healthy ones. You can do it. Believe in yourself. You are worth it.
- Take Control of What You Will Not Accept – In this brand NEW empowered life you are embracing, you now would be fully in control of what you will and will not accept in your life. Only accept positivity and awesome support in your life.
- Surround Yourself with The Best People – Every day, make the commitment to surround yourself with the absolute BEST people. You must make the commitment on your own to live a better life, but in order to sustain it, you definitely need to surround yourself with the best people.
Does any of this resonate with you? Is there something that has been holding you back that you are sick and tired of and you are ready to change things for the better? Do you have a story to share with me? I would absolutely love to hear from you. I believe in the person that told me that she is ready and committed to make changes for the better…. and I believe in you.
You deserve the best and absolutely nothing else. Remember this.
Every morning, I start my day with Quiet Time, which for me is Bible Study and prayer. Today my lesson was all about turning off negative self-talk and replacing it with what is positive. I guess that is the message I needed to hear today, because here it is all over again. My issue isn’t so much with negativity because I’m a naturally positive person. I also don’t hang out with toxic people. I’m working on #3 and #4.
Jane, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. It is definitely a process to change those negative patterns into positive ones…. but I believe in you! You have such amazing gifts and you are a beautiful person inside and out. You deserve the best and nothing less. Always here for you my friend. Keep moving forward.
Reading this post, made me realize how I use to be that person that was so sick and tired of being sick and tired. Thankfully, and by the grace of God, I am no longer that person! I have made the right choice to cut those toxic people out of my life! Cynthia, you helped me make that decision two years ago and I’m so thankful for your advice! I’m living a much better, positive, and productive life now! My relationship with my husband is a million times better because I’m not trying to “help” these toxic people and I’m now able to give my time to him. Thank you again, Cynthia!
Karri, your comment just made my day! I am SO incredibly happy for you. You made the choice to do something super positive with your life. I am so glad that I was there to support you and that it really helped. My passion as you know is other women’s happiness and success so it’s an honor to see the amazing, positive transformation. Thank you for sharing. You are awesome! Keep living life to the fullest!
Cynthia,
You speak so much wisdom here!
Would you believe, that my post on Facebook this morning was to thank your frustration for showing you clearly what is not working and giving you the energy to change it?
I love the enthusiasm and positive force of the post itself: get real; allow the sick and tired; commit, make firm boundaries and surround yourself with the right peeps. We need teachers like you to remind us of our personal authority — our innate ability to step into our creativity and be the authors of our own lives. Great post!
Blair! We are definitely on the same page as each other. That is too funny that we posted about the same thought and ideas. I really appreciate your comments and I absolutely LOVE what you are doing. Thank you for being such an inspiration. I look forward to us connecting further very soon!
Be sick and tired of being sick and tired!! YES! It’s funny, I talk to people all the time who are willing to complain but unwilling to start the process to CHANGE. You have to be willing to stop tolerating, even when it feels like the easier path. You always show us that the positive path has more energy and meaning than the crap that we’re putting up with could ever give us.
Thanks, Cynthia!
It’s SO true Alli! There are many people that say they want change but they are not sick and tired enough! I really appreciate your comments. We are definitely on the same page as each other. I appreciate you so much. Have an awesome day!
Cynthia,
I think we need a bigger ball park as you keep hitting them out of the existing one. It’s almost as if you live with no limit to what can be achieved….weird that huh?
Yet another epic post that I will share and reshare all over. Great strategies and steps to make the difference that makes the difference.
As I keep telling people that come to us with ‘hopes’ and ‘maybe’s’ …”Life doesn’t get better by chance, it gets better by CHANGE!”
Thanks as always my friend.
Dave
Thank you so much Dave for the shout out and comments. I appreciate your wisdom! We definitely have VERY similar thoughts on how to live a successful and happy life. Thanks again for everything!
Cynthia – great topic. I consider myself to be a positive person and for the most part live a happy life. But for most of my life there has been a major stumbling block that stood in my way of pursuing more goals and reaching my full potential. Being obese. It wasn’t healthy, and despite several successful attempts to take control of my weight I had so many more failures I was beginning to be too scared to even try.
I think fear of failure is a huge source of negativity. “Why bother, the weight will just come back” “I’ve tried before and always hit a wall I couldn’t get past” “I don’t have willpower” I could go on and on with the negative thoughts I’ve had about trying to change that part of me. Even as I started again this year as I have countless times since my first Weight Watchers meeting at age 15, I found myself scared I couldn’t make it happen, that I couldn’t change.
But I was sick of it so bad, was so committed to making the change, and ready to finally take control I can’t begin to explain how this journey is transforming me. It isn’t even about the weight anymore – I have lost almost 40 lbs and have about another 40 lbs to go…and the negativity is GONE. Even when I am faced with temptation, even when the choices are hard, even when I don’t want to get up early again to exercise, the old negative self talk is very quiet now. The new me focuses on staying positive, leaning on my positive friends/family when I need extra inspiration, and looking to the FUTURE, not dwelling on the PAST.
Every day I think, “I didn’t know I could come so far four months ago, think of how far I will be four months from now!” Positive begets positive – other parts of my life are blossoming in great part I think because of the energy I am putting out to the world. I feel great physically and emotionally/mentally are following along.
I AM the change I wanted. It wasn’t a magic pill or miracle cure. It was me doing all the steps you’ve listed and doing them repeatedly. Thanks for reminding me!
Tracy, I hope that SO many people read your amazing wisdom that you posted. I have known you for a long time now and I am SO proud of the woman you have become. You are such an inspiration to so many people. I want everyone to hear your message. Do not give up! Get the right resources and surround yourself with the BEST people. Again Tracy… YOU are amazing and thank you for sharing your journey. {{Hugs}} and High Fives!
Loved your suggestions, Cynthia!
I am beset by self-inflicted woes that prevent me from blossoming into my happy, healthy, humble, honest self.
But I try – every day – to shrug off my mantle of disgrace and depression to place one foot forward…just one foot forward!
LOVE YOU #HUGS

Cynthia – Once again you’ve hit it out of the park! Your insights are spot-on. In this post, although I liked all of your points, what stood out for me me was #3. Unless we make that commitment, everything will take a backseat. Thank you for sharing all of these timely insights. Your blog is a “must-read” and always look forward to it.
Thank you so much Doug for your comments on my article. I am so glad you really enjoyed it! It means the world to me. Yes…. we must commit every single day to doing positive things for ourselves and doing what makes us happy! Thanks again for taking the time to post. I wish you an awesome day.
A few years ago I was allowing negativity to consume me. It drove me into a deep, dark hole. I realized that only I could make the decision to get out of that hole. It was at that point my life changed. While it is always a work in progress, I no longer accept negative patterns (#3 above) and I only accept positivity into my life (#4 above). I realized that my “circle” of friends and connections had to change. Once I began to surround myself with BEST people (#5 above) my outlook on life became so much brighter. It is people like you Cynthia that help me succeed on a daily basis. Thank you for your constant positivity and uplifting messages and words. It does make a difference to so many people.
Great blog!! Awesome points!! Thank you for your message Cynthia!! Xo :))
Carla, Thank you so much my friend! So glad you enjoyed it!
Cynthia, great blog post! You’re right, it is so important to get to the core of what is blocking you. Most people hit #2 – a crisis before being willing to change, it’s important to realize that we don’t have to keep creating crisis after crisis in order to instigate change. #3 & #4 are so important and they start with changing the self talk, because our external experiences are a reflection of our internal thoughts. Love your affirmations – You can do it. Believe in yourself. You are worth it. Just repeating them until they become real can open the door to radical positive change. When we believe we are worth it – #5 naturally flows.
Great advice!
Thank you Cynthia. Thank you for compiling real questions, real answers and real solutions that helps us in improving our own lives. Your teachings encourage me look inside myself to get real without excuses. Thank you for enlightenment always!
you are so right on Cynthia! We need to be done with the negative environments including our own thoughts to really move forward and express our truest self. Surround yourself with love, light, encouragement, support, inspiration and allow that mirroring to expand and light up the world!
You are spot on, Cynthia! I totally agree, complaining and holding on to negativity doesn’t help us move forward. We don’t live in a perfect world and we’re bound to accumulate internal junk once in a while, but in the same way we weed our garden or vacuum our home, I believe that “internal house cleaning” is equally important if we want to keep our emotional filters clean. A positive attitude and a commitment to act on our goals can work wonders! Another great post!!!
As always Cynthia has hit it spot on and for this we must thank her.
Although only 5 tips they are all vital and I agree with them all.
They are of equal importance take them into account and stay focused and positive.
Good luck.
