Whether you’re single, married, younger, older, highly successful or just starting out in life, we all have times that we need that boost of confidence; that dose of inspiration to remind us that we are amazing and we need to go for what we want in life. Hopefully you’ll keep this list close by, because whenever you need an extra boost, to get pumped up, this is going to give you that extra motivation to get you revved up, get started or get yourself back on track.
7 ‘Smart’ Ways To Boost Confidence in Yourself Starting Today!
- Life…. Claim it. And Take Responsibility For It – So what do I mean by that? If you sit back and think about your life, do you take responsibility for all areas of your life? Your relationships, your financial situation, where you are career-wise in your life? You must take responsibility for every part of your life. When you do that, you are in control and you are able to create your destiny in life.
- Make Smart, Confident Decisions – You know when you make a bad decision how it feels don’t you? You kind of feel knocked down, a little deflated, really not confident the next time around when you need to make an important decision? When you make good decisions, you start believing in yourself more, and then you’ll make even more smart decisions. So how do begin by making smart decisions? When something comes at you, don’t jump at a decision. Don’t make a snap decision. It’s your life. Do things on your timeline. Take your time. Are you in a bind as far as what to do? I find it good to write things down. Write down all the possibilities; the good and the bad. The positives and the negatives. Talk to other people that support you, which you value their opinion. But the ultimate person who has to make the decision is you! So gather all the information, do your due diligence, listen to those around you, but then do what’s best for you! Got it? You’ll gain confidence by doing so.
- To Get Respect, You Must Treat Yourself With Respect– One of the top ways you will gain confidence is getting the respect of others. When you feel like you have respect, you have that confidence; that pep in your step; that feeling you can take on the world. You know how it feels, don’t you? Think of a time when you felt like you were getting the respect you deserve. Well in order for you to get that respect, you must respect yourself first. If you hate yourself, if you don’t like who you are. If you feel like just total crap on the inside… guess what? It will show on the outside! And what does that do to your confidence? So if you have issues with body image or ways to communicate or treating yourself with respect, we need to work on that with you! When you start feeling good about yourself, respecting yourself, you’ll gain great confidence and guess what? It will show to others that you value who you are and you deserve the best in life and expect respect in return.
- Break Out of the Ordinary and Be Extraordinary– Don’t you feel really confident and good about yourself when you excel at something? So let me ask you a question. What are you good at? What do you LOVE to do? Are you good at writing? Playing an instrument? Participating in a sport? Do you speak well in front of groups? Find something that you are passionate about and not just be good at it, EXCEL at it. Talk about confidence building!
- Always Keep Your Eyes Wide Open – One of the things that I have always said is live your life to the fullest but always keep your eyes wide open! There are a lot of smooth, savvy people out there that will take advantage of good people in a hot second. Being an investigator for the last 20 years, I have seen too many times people that were going with their heart and not using their head. So throughout life, always keep your eyes wide open to what is around you. Don’t be a pushover, stand up for yourself and remember, if something is too good to be true, it most likely is! When you are using your head and are smart to things around you, you will have great confidence when things get thrown at you. You’ve got this!
- Always Learn and Grow – There is a famous quote that I like by Eric Butterworth ‘Don’t go through life, grow through life’. I have learned through life that there is so much wealth and knowledge out there and you can learn something from absolutely anyone! I don’t know about you, but one of the most uncomfortable things can be, being in a group of people and they are talking about a particular subject and you have no idea what is going on and you have nothing to contribute. You are standing there and not really sure what to do but nod your head and just listen and try to figure out what is going on. Ask questions, talk with people, inquire, ask, learn, grow. When you ‘know’ certain things and feel safe to ask questions, your confidence level grows.
- Use Your Gifts. Carve Out Your Niche -Everyone in this world has a gift. You have talents that are different than anyone else. Some people will say in life to work on your weaknesses in life. For confidence building I say build on your gifts! Take them and develop a niche! Go with what works for you. Hopefully your talents and gifts are things you are passionate about. When you carve out your niche, you will be super charged up and confident because it is something that you’re not only good at, it’s something you excel at! There is a famous saying from my favorite movie. A Bronx Tale, which says. “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent” Want confidence? Take your gifts and do something extraordinary with it!!

Yes Carla! We can learn SO much from others around us. We just need to take the time to take it all in! I appreciate your comments!
As always Cynthia and other fabulous blog! I really like #4. Why be ordinary when everyone has extraordinary inside of them that yearns to be released. Part of releasing it means we need to understand what our true gifts are, and sometimes it can take years of growth and learning. But, patience is a virtue! In the end, always keep up the good fight, follow these seven principles and magic will happen! Thanks Cynthia for your inspiration and positivity! 🙂
Thank you so much Dale for your wisdom and inspiring words! You are appreciated. And you have such a gift of leadership. Thank you for all you do Dale!
Using your gifts for the greater good is our real purpose in life. We each have something wonderful to add to this crazy, beautiful world. Go into each morning being grateful for the life you have and find someone (anyone!) and do something selfless for them. In a year, you will have impacted 365 souls and be a better person for it.
Love this post!

Cindy….how many home runs can a woman hit time after time?
Answer: As many as she wants if she is a SmartChic like you!
This is a great post and it covers some of the most crucial factors in confidence. Break Out of the Ordinary and Be Extraordinary is a cool one and sometimes so overlooked or replaced with the usual think positive etc.
If you want to stand out, you have to be OUTSTANDING…Ordinary just doesn’t cut it sometimes….
I always look forward to your posts as there is always so much wisdom.
I love the new look to this website…refreshing, vibrant and looks like a great place to start getting smart…
All the best my friend….keep on rocking
Dave
Dave, thank you SO much for the shout out and amazing comments! I also really appreciate your thoughts about my new website! If I can inspire and motivate people to really going for it in life, I am so thankful for that! I appreciate the ongoing support Dave. You rock!
What I love most about your blog is the down-right practicality of it. You say in # 7 to carve out your niche. Well that is exactly what you have done, Cynthia, by taking those deep thoughts or sometimes difficult things we have to do (like facing ourselves) and just spelling it out in the most simple, motivating, inspiring, and loving way. That is who you are. Your genuine caring for people really moves me. You have real gift for helping women because you ARE a gift.
Thank you so much Gail for your fantastic comments and support. I am so glad that you love the blog…… My goal every day is to give ‘smart’ practical, inspiring tips to motivate people to go for it in life and live their best life. I appreciate you!
Great reminders! Great way to take for ourselves and reflect on each one! Thank you Cyn! Love #1! Blessings to you my friend 🙂
Thank you Karen for your comments! I appreciate it very much and am grateful for you! Shine on!
Love this Cynthia! Sometimes we need reminders, some daily! That we have so much self worth and that looking for it in others will most likely let us done. Know your value and reach for your goals with your strengths. On the other hand I have to say I adore many women in my #WithIt circle who I can call on almost any time of the day and they extend a pick me up. Boost my spirits or give me the kick in the bum I need to get over the doubt I put in front of me and own up to my own stuff. The sunshine and inspiration you bring daily is invaluable. I could never put a price on the teaching you do for me and my spirit!
Dana, thank you so much for your beautiful comments! I really appreciate you taking the time to post your thoughts. I also love the fact that you have a wonderful inner circle of people in your life that support you. That is so important in life!
Fantastic post, Cynthia! You bring up some really important points. It is so important to focus on building up the gifts you have been given, absolutely! Developing your strengths lead to confidence. Thanks for sharing these thoughts – they are such excellent reminders!
Thank you so much Donna for your comments. You are building from your gifts and strengths and there are such fantastic things to come for you my friend! Keep moving forward. You shine!
Hi Cynthia!
Inspiring post and all seven are great tips. Love #3. That old adage – if you don’t believe in yourself, who will? So important to believe in yourself and treat yourself with respect. After all, our environment and experiences are a mirror of our subconscious beliefs that are ready and coming up to be cleared and changed. When we respect ourselves we attract people that mirror that experience and that indeed breeds confidence. Keep the wonderfully inspiring advice coming!
Thank you so much Debbie for your comments. You are awesome. I love your wisdom…… You shine!!! And I appreciate you!
This is great!!! I printed it up, so when I am having one of those days I can pull it out and read it. Thank Cynthia for all your inspirations!
Hi DeEtte! I am so glad you enjoyed my post and printed it out! You’ve got this!
Another great post, Cindy!! I love all of your tips but my favorites are #6 and #7. I think it is so important to ask questions, network with positive people, learn, and grow. I love your tip regarding finding your niche, too! You mentioned building on your talents and your passions! Instead of working on your weaknesses, thrive on your gifts!! Use your talents and go for it!
As always, thank you for your daily motivation and inspiration, SmartChic!! <3
Thank you so much Jill for your comments. I greatly appreciate it! You have done an excellent job utilizing your strengths… your gifts! You are a shining example of someone going for it!
Great post and I love to go back to your blogs and read all of them from time to time. Make me feel better about myself and a reminder that I don’t have to deal with a situation alone. More than an inspiration, you’re a good friend, a good listener and appreciate you a lot 🙂
Thanks for sharing Cynthia
Great work Cynthia! I really liked your thoughts around number 2 – making smart, confident decisions.
We make the best decisions when we create the right headspace for ourselves, and can think clearly. I know we often make snap decisions through necessity, but the best, most well considered decisions come where we have the headspace to draw breath and listen to the voice of reason in our head.
To really own those decisions, we need to give that voice a megaphone!
That’s where your comments are so powerful – making a list and checking in with the favored friends and advisers is really important. Those two things alone will help you get clarity and focus which in turn,
will help you make those decisions with calm, cool confidence.
Well done, superstar 🙂
Cynthia you’ve done it again another super blog.
My personal favourite is No.6 we can always learn something new.
We should never stop developing new skills and changing the way we think.
Expand the mind refresh the thought process reinvigorate the body!
Thanks Cindy ☺
