This is always a busy time of year. Between holiday shopping, cooking, attending holiday parties and finishing up client work, there seems not to be much other time to think about anything else. But I do think about something else. Always at this time, I review what my goals were for the year; and see what I accomplished and what I didn’t do.
Sometimes people get a little bummed about what they ‘did not’ accomplish and focus on that versus what they did accomplish during the year. It’s perfectly fine to go through the things you didn’t do over the last year but you should never dwell on it. If you really look back on the year, you probably accomplished so much that you can’t even recall them off the top of your head.
So let’s focus on what you really did accomplish this year. Get a piece of paper! Because you are going to want to write down the answers to the 10 things below.
10 Accomplishments You Should Be Proud Of This Year
- The Things You Have Learned – What did you learn this year for the first time or what do you know more of now than you ever have?
- Great Challenges You Have Overcome – Looking back at the year, what major challenges did you have that you worked through and are now in a better place?
- Gifts You Contributed To the World – How did you step it up this year; doing more of what you are an expert in and giving back to the world in a special way?
- The Impact You Made in Someone’s Life – Is there someone specific that you helped along the way this year in a positive way?
- Things You Have Eliminated In Your Life – What things were you previously doing in your life that you might have delegated or eliminated? Have you eliminate unnecessary drama in your life?
- Relationships You Have Started or Rekindled – What friendships or relationships did you start or rekindle this past year?
- Places You Have Seen -Where did you go? What amazing, cool places did you see?
- Inner Growth – How did you get to know more about yourself this past year?
- Letting Go Of Things You Couldn’t Control – What things did you not put energy to, because you knew you couldn’t do anything about it?
- Made Yourself More of a Priority – How did you make yourself more of a priority this past year? Did you exercise more? Did you relax more or make it a point to have more fun in your days?
So looking at that list above and your answers, let’s focus in on the positive! What accomplishments did you have this year? List them in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!

Cynthia you have DONE IT AGAIN!
So often, particularly if we are goal-focused ironically, it can be easy to forget some of the successes we have achieved in favour of focusing on those areas where we may feel we have fallen a little short.
By framing up these TEN brilliant coaching questions what you have done so well is provided us all with an objective framework to re-examine our successes and celebrate those achievements that we might otherwise have forgotten – fantastically useful!!
And as you so often encourage all of us to remember, it is so important to celebrate ALL of our successes, be they goal and task orientated, spiritually orientated, relationship orientated, financially orientated or otherwise.
This is a brilliant post Cynthia and one that I will keep referring back to as I focus on my goals for the year ahead as well as remember my achievements of this year.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Sean for your amazing comments. You are extraordinary and I cannot wait to see where you go in 2015. You have such a gift of connecting with people. I am so glad we have connected!!
This is such a timely post! I think it is so easy to overlook the good, things that have been accomplished and small mountains that have been climbed! Remembering even small achievements can help propel us forward!
Thanks, as always Cynthia, for the words of inspiration!
Donna, you have accomplished SO much this year and I absolutely cannot wait to see where you go in 2015! You shine and it is going to be a fabulous year for you!
How to spell ENCOURAGED….C y n t h i a B a z e n T h e S m a r t C h i c – If you’d asked me what I accomplished this year, I could name maybe two things. Using your questionnaire I have a lot more on my list that I thought. Thank you for not asking us to fill in the blanks of what we didn’t come close to accomplishing. 2015 is going to be better because I have a better support system now that gets better every day.
Jane, I am so honored to have connected with you this past year. I have seen you grow this past year and I am SO excited to see where you go in 2015! It is going to be a fabulous year for you!
Great post Cynthia! For me getting rid of things and relationships that no longer served me. Making room for better things to come in 2015! It’s going to be a FABULOUS year.
Stephanie it is going to be a fabulous year and I am so glad that I will be part of it by watching you SOAR! Happy Holidays my friend! I appreciate YOU!
Good thoughts my friend. Regarding #4, I have been a friend to someone who lives far away from their kids due to a job. They have struggled with work too. The thing to keep in mind is that what you may think is minor, the person you are helping could see it as major. That has been the case in this instance and I’m very honored to be a positive and encouraging person in their life.
You are so awesome Geoff. You are a blessing in this person’s life. I am so honored to know you and can’t wait to connect with each other even more in 2015! Happy Holidays my friend! #1208
